Biljana Potparević was born on May 22, 1966. in Belgrade, where she finished elementary and high school. She graduated from the University of Belgrade - Faculty of Biology in 1990, received her master's degree in 1992 and her PhD in 1999 in the field of human genetics. She has been employed at the Faculty of Pharmacy since 1993.

Biljana Potparević participates in the realization of teaching in integrated, doctoral and specialist studies at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade. She teaches the compulsory subject Biology with Human Genetics and the elective subject Fundamentals of Molecular Genetics. In doctoral studies, she teaches the subject of Research of genomic instability in in vivo and in vitro systems. In specialist studies for health workers and health associates, in the study program Medical Biochemistry, she participates in teaching the subject of Genetics. So far, she has been a mentor of three defended doctoral dissertations, a member of the commission of two defended doctoral dissertations, a mentor of one master's thesis and a mentor and member of the commission of a number of final theses.

Since 1996, Dr. Biljana Potparević has participated in projects of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Serbia. She led the national basic research project from 2011-2019. and was the leader of two bilateral projects; with the Republic of Slovenia and with the Republic of Italy. She has achieved rich international cooperation by participating in several COST actions as an MC member. In 2014, she launched an initiative to establish a Center for Biological Research at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade, of which she has been the head since its establishment. So far, she has published over 80 scientific papers in the M20 category, chapters in four monographs of international importance, a large number of presentations at national and international conferences and two textbooks for pharmacy students. The number of citations according to the Scopus database is 650 without self citations, h index 15. She has shown research interest in the following areas: human genetics, cell biology, cytopathology of Alzheimer's disease, molecular cytogenetics, genotoxicology. In 2002, she received the award of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of Republic of Serbia for the most successful young scientists. She is a member of a number of scientific societies in the country and abroad.

Since 2020, Prof. Biljana has been a member of the Council of Scientific Areas of Natural Sciences at the University of Belgrade. She is also a member and supervisor of the team for development and preparation of tasks for final exams, as well as instruments, manuals and materials with content and procedures for final exams of the State Matura project, Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, under EU auspices.
